1. Overview

The News Reader extension enables users to convert selected text from any website into natural-sounding audio using ElevenLabs AI voices. We are committed to protecting your privacy and data.

2. Data Collection

✅ We do NOT collect:

Personal information from users
Browsing history
Identifying data
Account information

The text selected by the user is sent to the ElevenLabs API for the sole purpose of generating speech, and only when the user actively clicks the play button.

3. Use of Permissions

The extension requires the following permissions:

activeTab

To access the current page and show the play button near selected text

scripting

To inject a lightweight script to render the 🔊 button dynamically

storage

To remember user preferences (voice & speed)

host permissions

To allow the extension to work on any site where the user selects text

All of these permissions are used strictly to support the single-purpose functionality of the extension.

4. Third-Party APIs

We use ElevenLabs' Text-to-Speech API to generate audio from selected text. The only data sent to the API is the specific text selected by the user. No identifying information is sent.

Note: Text is only sent when you actively click the audio play button.

5. Data Sharing

🚫 We do NOT:

Sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties
Use analytics, tracking, or advertising systems
Store history of converted text

6. User Control

Users can:

Remove all locally stored preferences at any time by removing the extension from their browser
Disable the extension at any time
Choose which text gets converted to speech
Customize voice and speed settings

7. Security

All API communications are encrypted with SSL/HTTPS. The extension is built following Chrome Extension Manifest V3 security standards.
